Known for its rich black soil plains, this large town is located on the banks of the Mehi River. Moree is recognised nationally as Australia’s Artesian Spa Capital, with 2 large natural pools filled with natural mineral water from underground, known for their healing powers.

Getting There

If driving, Moree is 628 kms north west of Sydney via the New England, Oxley and Newell Highways. At 444 kms south west of Brisbane, you can take the Cunningham and Newell Highways which will take you to Moree

There is a daily train service from Sydney.
By bus, Moree is on the route from Brisbane to Melbourne.
There are also daily flights to Moree from Sydney (QANTAS) and Brisbane (Brindabella Airlines)

Accommodation

There are a variety of budget options in town including caravan parks, camping options, motels and hotels. You may also be able to stay on site if camping in some farms with the permission of the owner.

Not Fruit Picking – What to do?

  • You must check out the famous mineral baths, which are said to have ancient healing powers when bathed in.
  • Have a look at the largest pecan nut farm in the southern hemisphere, Trawalla Pecan Nut Farm, which is a 35km journey from Moree on the Gwydir Highway.
  • Grab some boots and take a hike through the spectacular Waa Gorge in Kaputar National Park.

Extending Your Australian Working Holiday Visa

Many harvest jobs will meet the Second Australian Working Holiday Visa eligibility and count towards the 88 days of specified work. Some regional locations and jobs are ineligible which could lead to the Department of Immigration rejecting your application. So remember to confirm whether or not your fruit picking or harvest job will count towards the Second Australian WHV.
