Maffra is a small country town in Gippsland, located 3 hours drive east of Melbourne with a population of approximately 4,000. With mountains to your north and the sea to your south you’ll have access to the best of both worlds in Maffra.  Harvest work wise you’ll find work picking various vegetables and or Asparagus.

A 15 minute drive from Sale, Maffra is a 3 hours drive east of Melbourne. Buses will also get you there, most passengers get the train to Traralgon and grab a connecting bus to Maffra.

Accommodation
Some farms will provide dorm style bedding or will accommodate harvest workers with camper vans or camping equipment. There is a local hostel in town which can also be an aid for obtaining harvest work. Otherwise there’s a caravan park in town along with the usual suspects. Harvesters could also stay in sale and commute daily.

Extending Your Australian Working Holiday Visa

Many harvest jobs will meet the Second Australian Working Holiday Visa eligibility and count towards the 88 days of specified work. Some regional locations and jobs are ineligible which could lead to the Department of Immigration rejecting your application. So remember to confirm whether or not your fruit picking or harvest job will count towards the Second Australian WHV.
