Elkes Backpackers Darwin is an international hostel situated in the Darwin city center. The hostel is set apart by the tropical style, elevated buildings (which survived the devastation of cyclone Tracy back in 1974) and massive trees with lush gardens. After completing a major renovation in April 2007 the place looks fantastic. Located just 5 minutes walk to the shops and bars, Elkes is close enough to be convenient but far enough away to be relaxing. You’ll be able to base yourself here while you sort out harvest work in the surrounding or local area. Gecko Lodge is positioned in the centre of Darwin, the hostel is friendly, family run, quiet, clean & cosy. Set in lush tropical gardens, it is a 10 minutes walk to the city or to Mindil Beach. You’ll be able to base yourself from here in the quest for harvest work or if you find a job in the surrounding areas. Their is onsite internet, self catering, 24 hour checking and a swimming pool.
Chilli’s Backpackers is a good base to experience Darwin and find harvest or fruit picking work in the surrounding areas. The hostel itself has a 24hr reception and has rooms to suit all; twin, double and 4 share bunks (with and without ensuites!) rooms, or dormitory accommodation with a maximum of 6 people per room. There’s even 2 pools at this fantastically designed hostel.
