Rombola Family Farms encompasses over 4,000 hectares of intensive irrigated horticultural production at Griffith (NSW), Bundaberg (QLD) and Mataranka (NT). Agricultural enterprises include Seedless Watermelon, Rockmelons, Broccoli, Pumpkin, Almonds and Winegrapes. Operations include primary production, processing, value adding and marketing.

We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic Harvest Workers – Farm Labourers to join our team in Mataranka, NT. The successful applicants will support harvest operations by selecting fresh produce for picking according to size and ripeness, and discard rotting and over-ripened produce following Rombola Family Farms quality standards. The role may operate farm machinery to harvest fresh produce, load picked fresh produce into containers, taking care to avoid damage and assist with minor repairs and maintenance of vehicles, assets and equipment.

 

Key accountabilities include:

  • Picking fruit and vegetables according to size and ripeness by hand.
  • Discarding rotting and over-ripened produce following our quality standards.
  • Operating small tractors, when required.
  • Loading picked fresh produce into containers.
  • Digging and planting/transplanting seedlings by hand
  • Receiving incoming goods, checking for damage and for discrepancies between goods and packing orders.
  • Unloading vehicles, opening packages, and removing contents.
  • Labelling goods with details of storage location.
  • Packing and weighing goods and sealing boxes.
  • Assisting with regular stocktakes.
  • Participate in inspecting, grading, sorting, storage and post-harvest treatment of crops.
  • Perform general labouring tasks.
  • Perform daily pre-start and post-operation checks.
  • Dig and plant seeds, or transplant seedlings by hand or machine.
  • Perform thinning or pruning activities.
  • Load agricultural products into trucks, and drive storage facilities.
  • Perform a range of housekeeping tasks on premises and grounds.
  • Performing basic recording functions related to work performed at this level.
  • Providing assistance within the scope of this level to other employees as required.

 

To be successful in the role you will possess the following:

  • Previous farm experience is an advantage.
  • Current driver’s license.
  • Reliable transportation is a must.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours during peak periods, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Immediate availability to start work.
  • Willing to stay for the whole harvest period.
  • Be capable and willing to work in a busy environment.
  • Awareness and ability to adhere to rules and procedures.
  • Evidence of work rights.
  • Chemical Certification will be advantageous.
  • Team player who can work effectively with people from different backgrounds.
  • Good level of physical fitness, including ability to kneel, grasp, bend/twist, lift light to moderate loads (up to 10-15kg)

Remuneration:  $28.26/hr (Horticulture Award 2020, Level 1).

Rombola Family Farms is a large scale, progressive, privately owned horticultural business based 20kms North of Griffith, NSW.  The company operates counter-seasonal operations in Mataranka (Northern Territory), and in Bundaberg (Queensland), allowing us to supply our melons and pumpkins to our customers year-round.
