Fruit Picking Jobs in Australia

Grape picking can be a very repetitive and tiring job that can lack intellectual stimulation . Work will typically involve strip picking grapes or sorting and packing grapes.  If you haven’t had prior experience picking grapes, you will be taught the correct technique onsite. Understanding the correct picking technique will make you more efficient as a picker which will result in a bigger pay cheque, which will mean more money to go travelling!

Picking Tips

Grapes should only be picked when fully ripe and mature to ensure they develop full flavor. The best indications of ripeness are colour and flavour of the grapes. The natural bloom on the grape will become noticeable at the fully-ripe stage, and the berries will become slightly less firm to the touch. To pick the grapes use a pruning shear, cut each cluster from the vine, try to handle them as little as possible. The clusters of grapes will be stored in basket or container and then transported back to the packing sheds by one of the carriers. Grapes will keep for several weeks if they are picked carefully and stored in a very cool, well-ventilated place. Remember to as your farmer or working hostel for any handy tips or hints.

    Hi,

I am interested in grape picking as I will be moving to Lewisham from the start of March until June.
a farm near the Lewisham area would be appropriate and convenient. I have experience in picking apples, cherries and strawberries but, not grapes. I am happy to learn the correct way of harvesting this fruit.
I hope you will consider me to join your team for the near future.

    Cheers Trish

    Dear Sir or Madame,

I am 21 years old with a working holiday visa from Germany. I am hard working and have great references.

I am traveling Australia and have started my trip visiting family in Perth. After arriving in January, I have traveled up to Broome and back. I am now based back in Perth and would like to work.

I have an international driver’s license (equivalent to WA’s C Class license) and have my own car. I’m a hardworking, open-minded, friendly and reliable person that likes to organize, to plan, to work independently and to work in a team. My English is good and I have great computer skills.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my application, and I look forward to hearing from you.

    Yours sincerely,
    Ennie Jakobi
