Extending Your Australian Working Holiday Visa

So you’ve come downunder on the 417 Working Holiday Visa and realised Australia really is the lucky country! Beaches, sun, surf, great pay and happy days, what’s their to complain about! Well it is pretty expensive but we guess the pay makes up for it.

The big question beckons, how do you stay in oz for another year? You could always come back on a tourist visa but then you’re unable to work on only stay for a short period. The answer is the Second Working Holiday Visa   WHV a visa Department of Immigration created the Second Working Holiday Visa which would essentially let you work and stay in country for another year. How do you qualify?

So if you’re still between 18-30 and completed 88 days of “specified work” in the first year of your working holiday you’re set!

What’s Specified Work?

Basically it’s fruit picking, harvest or regional work in an eligible area of Regional Australia. Fruit Picking is a popular choice and a great way to earn money, make new friends and experience the Australian lifestyle.  Remember you’ll find heaps positions on the job board, not all will be in regional areas on the postcode list but the vast majority generally are.

There’s obviously fruit picking and farm work, below is the Department of Immigrations list of Specified Work

Plant and animal cultivation, Fishing and pearling , Construction, Mining, Tree farming and felling

Remember the specified work needs to be in a region on the eligiblie regional postcode list.

Australian Capital Territory
Bummer! ACT isn’t deemed to be a part of regional Australia.
New South Wales
2311 – 2312, 2328 – 2411, 2420 – 2490, 2536 – 2551, 2575 – 2594, 2618 – 2739, 2787 – 2898 Remember guys this list completely excludes Newcastle, Sydney, the Central Coast and Wollongong.
Queensland

Unfortunately drinking in St Kilda doesn’t count towards your 88 days of specified work!

Providing Evidence of your Specified Work

Okay sweet you’ve done the work, now you just to to prove it so you can be granted the 2nd WHV. Remember to keep the following items safe, because you’ll really be sorry later if you don’t!

  • An  employment verification form, completed and signed by your boss.
  • Group Certificates ( Statements issued by your employer for taxation purposes)
  • Payslips ( Weekly, fortnightly, monthly)
  • Tax Return statement and information
  • A reference from your employer
  • An original bank statement for the duration of your work
The more information you have the easier it will be for the department to approve your application :)
